Dropshipping in Bangladesh: how it actually works here

How dropshipping works in Bangladesh — cash on delivery, bKash and Nagad, Pathao courier, taka pricing and which suppliers ship here.

Dropshipping in Bangladesh is not the American model with a taka sign in front of it. Three things are different: most customers pay cash on delivery, digital payment means mobile wallets rather than cards, and your delivery promise is set by local courier coverage.

Get those three right and the rest of the model behaves normally.

01Cash on delivery is the default, not the fallback

Most Bangladeshi shoppers still expect to pay when the parcel arrives. COD is what converts a first-time visitor who has never heard of your brand.

Digital payment sits beside it: bKash and Nagad cover most wallet payments, and card checkout matters mainly for higher-value baskets and buyers abroad.

  • Offer COD on every product unless the item is fragile or high value
  • Add bKash and Nagad for customers who prefer to prepay
  • Expect a share of COD parcels to be refused — price for it

02Delivery: inside Dhaka vs outside Dhaka

Courier pricing and speed split on one line: inside Dhaka, or outside. Inside Dhaka is typically same-day to next-day at a lower fee; outside Dhaka runs two to four days at a higher fee.

Quote those two numbers honestly on the product page. Nothing damages a new local brand faster than a promised timeline the courier cannot hit.

Typical local delivery expectation
ZoneTimeFee band
Inside Dhaka1–2 days৳60–৳90
Outside Dhaka2–4 days৳110–৳150

03Where the products come from

Two sourcing routes work from Bangladesh. International suppliers such as CJ Dropshipping give you enormous catalogue depth with longer shipping. Local wholesale gives you two-day delivery on a narrower range.

Serious local sellers usually run both: imported products to test demand, local stock for the winners.

04Pricing in taka, including the FX step

Imported supplier cost is quoted in dollars, so every product needs a conversion before it can be priced. DropShop converts at roughly 1 USD ≈ ৳122 and applies a default 30% margin, both editable per product.

Treat FX as an assumption you review, not a constant. When the rate moves, your landed cost moves with it.

05Trust is the real conversion lever

Bangladeshi shoppers buy from shops that look answerable. A real phone number, a WhatsApp reply within minutes, a store name on the delivery slip and a clear return line convert better than any design trick.

Word of mouth in Facebook groups and WhatsApp is still the cheapest acquisition channel in this market.

Questions

Do I need a trade licence to dropship in Bangladesh?
For a registered business receiving payments through business channels, yes — a trade licence and TIN are the normal baseline. See the legality guide for the full picture.
Can I sell without cash on delivery?
You can, but expect far lower conversion from first-time buyers. Most local shops keep COD as the primary option.
Which courier should I use?
Pathao has broad coverage and COD collection, which is why DropShop books parcels through it. Use whichever courier actually serves your customers' districts reliably.
